The Historic Center

Spend the morning exploring the historic center of Quito, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the best-preserved old towns in Latin America. Founded by the Spanish in the 16th century on top of an existing Indigenous city, this area tells the story of conquest, religion, resistance, and daily life layered over centuries.

We’ll walk through central plazas and narrow streets, stopping at landmark churches known for their gold-covered interiors. Along the way, we’ll take in the colonial architecture that defines the neighborhood, from grand facades to streets that are still very much part of daily life today. We’ll also pause to try local snacks, learn how food and tradition connect, and observe the everyday rhythm of the city center.

The pace will be easy and walkable, with time to pause, take photos, and soak in the details.
